Richard GarriottUKSC 2009 started with a new addition to the UKSC agenda - the Kids Day! This event attracted around 400 children and teachers who came from far and wide to enjoy a range of activities led by industry and academia. The day was made particularly special due to the participation of Richard Garriott who is the latest astronaut of British descent to travel to space and visit the International Space Station.

Much to the delight of the children, Richard was tireless in his efforts to address groups and individuals and answer a variety of questions about his experiences. He also complimented the conference organizers for their efforts and noted that the UK space community had a lot to be proud of when it comes to translating ideas to reality when it comes to the value of space as an inspiration and focus for education. See Richard talking about the Cassini Challenge.
